It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Norman Mathers of Pine Hill, Alabama, who passed away on February 7, 2026, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Jessie Doris Mathers and Chester Ebenezer Mathers; his stepfather Horace Sheffield; and his siblings, William Sheffield, Jamie Mathers, Bobby Mathers, Sophia Mathers Champion, Dottie Mathers Gaston, Vergie Sheffield Mathers and Edna Sheffield Anderson.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Elizabeth Barnes Mathers; his daughters, Karen Elizabeth Averitt Anderson (Clint), Amanda Hope Mathers Massey (Luke) and Ashley Nicole Mathers Thornton; his sisters, Sue Mathers Abston and Gwen Sheffield Grimes; and his grandchildren, Philip M. Aitken, Grady W. Aitken, Taylor E. Aitken, Brittney M. Anderson, Emily N. Napier, E. Carter Napier, Brannon W. Massey, Lillian H. Massey and Eben E. Massey. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren.
