He was predeceased by: his parents, James Pittman and Ruth Annette Sheffield; his son James "Jamie" Roger Sheffield; his stepson Ronald David Hyatt, Jr.; and his sisters, Mary Criswell Taylor and Linda Criswell Etheridge.

He is survived by: his wife Faye Sheffield; his daughter Tessa Sheffield Foote; his stepdaughter Tammy Hyatt King; and his siblings, Billy L. Criswell (Emma) and Jane E. Britt. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
