He was predeceased by: his parents, Emra Otto Dawson and Eva Mae Prewett Dawson; and his siblings, Thomas Elbert Dawson, Duane Dawson, R. A. Dawson, Jenell Chambliss, Nancy June Wilson and Patricia "Pat" Ellis.
He is survived by: his wife Frances Lavaughn Black; his sons, Willard Dawson (Delois) and James Dawson (Becky) of Bill's Goat Farm; and his grandchildren, Justice Dawson, Christian Dawson, Cynthia Dawson and Christine Dawson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM and from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 14th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Wesley's Chapel Cemetery (4514 Co Rd 27, Rainsville, AL 35986).
