He is survived by: his wife Georgie Whitaker; his children, Mark Whitaker (Ginny), Nita Dodson (Freddie), Celia Thompson (Phil) and Quetta McGinnis (Joe); his siblings, Donna Peterson, Benny Whitaker and Greg Francis; and his grandchildren, Daniel Dodson (Becky), Derick Dodson (Tiffany), Amanda Hudson (Clay), Alyssa Ray (Jon Mark), Johnathan Chadwick (Maegan), Holly Humphrey (Chad), Dana Bray (Cory), Dante Thompson, Laci Smitherman (Nate) and Mahayla McGraw (Austin). He is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
