We announce the death of Jane Elizabeth Scates of Remlap, Alabama, born in Mount Vernon, Illinois, who passed away on September 8, 2026, at the age of 88. Jane will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Jane’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued her companionship.
She was predeceased by: her husband Bill Scates; and her sisters, Pat Sanders and Elaine Hartley. She is survived by: her children, Holly Rowlen (Jeff) and Tony Scates; her brother Bill Starkey (Tracy); her grandchildren, Daniel Rowlen (Lacey), Joanna Rowlen and Holly Messer (Ryan); and her daughter Charlotte. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Ridout's Trussville Chapel (1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
