He was predeceased by: his parents, Harlin Knight and Bernice Hester Knight; his wife Sarah Knight; his son Dennis Hester; and his siblings, Emery Knight, Ezra "Buddy" Knight, Clifford Knight, Billy Knight, R. L. Knight, Tony Knight, Velma Nolen and Dena Screws.
He is survived by: his children, Sharon Robinson of Roanoke, Roger Hester of Roanoke and Tony Hester of Roanoke; his grandchildren, Shasta Robinson, Jason Hester, Ashley Burnett, Matt Hester and Malorie Chandler; and his siblings, Elsie Perry of Roanoke and Manley Knight (Judy) of Mellow Valley. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.
