She was predeceased by : her parents, George Pate and Lucy Baldwin Pinkard; her husband John Winfred Smith; and her siblings, Hoyt Sanford Pinkard and Latha Pinkard Etchison.

She is survived by : her daughters, Janet Lynn Smith Jones of Mebane, NC and Joy Elaine Smith Morgan of Roanoke. She is also survived by four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
