He was predeceased by: his parents, Leon Spears and Lou Mindy McDaniel Spears; his wife Charlene Bozeman Spears; his siblings, Margaret Waldings, Kathleen Spears, Shirleen Spears, Virgil Spears and Lee Spears; and his nephew Greg Waldings.

He is survived by: his children, Angela Massey of Roanoke, Michael Spears of Winchester, Tim Spears (Wanda) of Roanoke, Marc Spears of Roanoke and Cody Crawford (Deseree Southers) of Oxford; his grandchildren, Halie Spears, James Lewis Spears, Patricia Cameron and Tiffany Scarberry; his great grandchildren, Lakyn Hawkins, Kameron Kelley and Emory Killian; and his sisters, Fay Stephens of Roanoke and Ann Skraback of Roanoke.

Memorials may be floral, or the family would appreciate contributions toward funeral expenses.
