He is survived by: his wife Emily McCormick Massey; his children, David Moorer Massey, III (Kelly) and Amanda Massey Wolf (John); his grandchildren, Laura Whitney Scurlock, Christopher Bohannon (Katlin), Ashby Massey (Mikaela), Cody Bohannon (Waverly), John Wesley Wolf (Lucy), Natalie Jones (Chris), Katelyn Cruce (Stephen), Spivey Massey, Connor Massey, Emma Massey and Samantha Nelson; his sister-in-law Julie McCormick Yelverton; and his sibling's children, Stephanie Piper (Steve), Emily Jones (Jim) and Keith Sewell (Chasity). He is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren.
