He was predeceased by: his parents, Woodrow Gassett and Hattie Ruth Stuckey Gassett; his daughter Martha Carol Gassett; his siblings, Nellie Ruth Gassett and Billy Ray Gassett; and his siblings-in-law, Mary Bludsworth (Buddy), Wayne Monk, Bobby Blocker and Charles Mitchell.

He is survived by: his wife Martha Raye Monk Gassett; his children, Dianne Tharpe (John) of Skipperville and Michael Gassett (Julia) of Skipperville; his sisters, Sara Blocker and Ann Mitchell; his siblings-in-law, Christina Monk and Mel Monk (Sherry); his grandson Jonathan Tharpe (Danika); and his great grandchild JeorgieAnne Carol Tharpe.
