He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Henry Kelly and Marie Pratt Kelly; his wife Helen Holder Mosley Kelly; and his siblings, Patrick Wheeler Kelly and Rita Kelly Nelson.
He is survived by: his daughter Laura Kelly Bates (Morris); and his grandchildren, John Morris Bates III and Laura Keelin Bates. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, October 20th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church (6620 Spanish Fort Blvd, Spanish Fort, AL 36527). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 20th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery (34904 AL-225, Spanish Fort, AL 36577). A burial was held on Tuesday, October 20th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the same location. A reception was held on Tuesday, October 20th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Fairhope Yacht Club (101 Volanta Ave, Fairhope, AL 36532).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Auburn University's College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment to further research on turkeys or Fisher House Foundation in support of veterans and their families.
