He is survived by: his wife Cindy Daniels Hopkins; his children, Dent (Lori), Elizabeth (Andy), Caroline (Ralph) and Michelle (Rod); his brother Samuel Edward Neilson; his grandchildren, Neilson (Katherine), Sam, Tripp, Brooks (Rowen), Martha, Mary Elizabeth, Madison (John Anthony) and Nic (Lauren); and his great grandchildren, Ellie, Nora Kate (Collins) and Jaxon.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church (200 E Decatur St, Demopolis, AL 36784).
He was a member of Rotary, was selected as Fellow of the Alabama Law Foundation in 2004, received the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and received the Hugh A. Lloyd Lifetime Scouting Achievement Award in 2021.
