He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas "Bud" Melton and Ila Melton; and his sister Linda O'dell. He is survived by: his wife Charlene Melton; his son Carlton Melton (Melanie); his granddaughters, Katelyn Lynd (Tyler) and Hannan McCollum (Griffin); his great grandchild Lee McCollum; and his siblings, Tommy Melton and Brenda Usery (Paul). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws and sisters-in-law.
