He was predeceased by : his parents, Carlton Hugh Carter and Martha Benton Carter. He is survived by : his wife Suzy Carter; his children, Lindzy Carter Callaway (Blake) of Moulton and Blake Carter of Harvest; and his brothers, Mike Carter (Pam) of Kissimmee, FL and Don Carter (Betty) of Decatur, GA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in his honor to Hospice of North Alabama or the Alzheimer's Association.
