He was predeceased by : his wife Willene Day Avera; his parents, Edwin Patrick Avera and Lucille Avera; his siblings, Marguerite Owens and Donald Patrick Avera; and his parents-in-law, Robert Richard Day and Willie Dell Day.

He is survived by : his daughters, Jenny Avera and Judy Avera Armstead; his son-in-law Micheal Armstead; his grandson MJ Armstead; and his caregivers, Linda Thomas, Elaine McCleod and Clara Boyd. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
