He was predeceased by: his wife Barbara Nell Sherer; his parents, Thomas Sherer and Lois Sherer; his brother Carl D. Sherer; his sister-in-law Frankie Sherer; his grandson Josh Copeland; and his siblings, Carole Darby and Hugh Sherer.

He is survived by: his daughters, Teri Patterson (Bobby) and Traci Copeland (Jason); his brother Jimmy Sherer; his grandchildren, Diana Hatchett (Kyle), Ashley Ogletree (Michael), Taylor Federico (Marc) and Makenzie Barber (DJ); and his great grandchildren, Ellie Grace Ogletree, Amelia Gray Federico, Sophie Kate Ogletree, Elsie Ruth Hatchett, Hampton Thomas Federico and Scottie Blair Ogletree. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
