He was predeceased by: his wife Mamie McDougal Vess; his daughter Donna Vess May; his siblings, John, Leland, Charles Vess, Ethel Buchan, Hattie McDonald, Bell Harrison, Elsie Berryman, Stella Vess and Edna Earle Vess; and his parents, Edgar Simon Vess and Maude Ella Kiser Vess.
He is survived by: his children, Anthony Vess (Detra Bonner) and Rhonda Blackburn (Josh Tippett); and his grandchildren, Crystal Blackburn (Robert Rusin), Joel Blackburn, Michael Campbell (Julie), Jeremy May (Heather Ingram), Sean May (Kim), Neoshia Goldman (Matthew), Stephanie Vess (Daniel Stinson), Valerie Evans (Phillip) and Kimberly Vess (Ezra Rowley). He is also survived by nineteen great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, a wealth of treasured nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
