He was predeceased by: his mother Addie Velma Thomas Moates. He is survived by: his father George Washington "G. W." Moates; his wife Wanda Moates of Verbena; his children, Renee Smith of Hoover, Mike Moates of Verbena and Ronald Peppers of Verbena; and his grandchildren, Taylor Smith of Birmingham, Amy Smith Gibson of Birmingham, Samantha Baker of Clanton, Devin Sanders of Verbena, Josh Peppers of Verbena and David Peppers of Verbena. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 20th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Ellison Memorial Funeral Home (1709 Lay Dam Rd, Clanton, AL 35045). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 20th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Monday, October 20th 2025 at the Chilton Memorial Gardens (1104 Harrier St, Clanton, AL 35045).
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Dementia Society of America.
