He was predeceased by : his parents, Lamon Cunningham and Bertha Smith Cunningham; his great grandchild Karter Blair Smith; and his siblings, Edward "Preacher" Cunningham, Earl Cunningham, Robert Cunningham, Gertrude Parmer, Cloie Noles, Era Maude Smith, Louise and Dean Cunningham.

He is survived by : his children, Melinda "Crickett" Ford (Wendell) of Wedowee, Tommy Cunningham of Wedowee and Joel Cunningham, Jr. (Tammy) of Chattanooga, TN; and his siblings, Jeanette Lowery (Jimmy) of Bowdon, GA, Jean Cook (Clyde) of Ephesus, GA, Mary Tarpley of Bowdon, GA, Lester Cunningham of Pensacola, FL and Rendel Cunningham (Judy) of Fairburn, GA. He is also survived by four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 22nd 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Bethel East Baptist Church (18990 Co Rd 87, Woodland, AL 36280). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 22nd 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
