He was predeceased by: his wife Patricia "Pat" Brown; and his son James Fitts. He is survived by: his children, Regina Joyce Brown Smith, Robert Charles Brown, Linda Estelle Sexton, Bonnie Moncrief, Carol Jarrett and Rose Hall; and his siblings, John Brown, Edwin Brown, Hubert Brown, Eloise Petty, Joyce Jarrett and Barbara Ann Duck. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
