He was predeceased by: his mother Margie Sides Driver; his grandparents, David Houston and Ophelia Sides; his half-sister Regina Summers; and his parents-in-law, J. T. and Helen Carwile.

He is survived by: his wife Brenda Carwile Sides; his children, Alisa D. Sides and Frederick Scott Sides (Kim); his grandchildren, Courtney Ruth Sides and Houston Scott Sides; and his half-sister Nita Calloway. He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews.
