He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Newman and Marvel Newman; his sister Francis Gaunitz; and his brother-in-law Stanley Snead. He is survived by: his wife Annie Newman; his daughters, Katherine Spears (Charles), Barbara Hunter (Tracy), Shelby George (Jesse), Tanya Delafield and Christy McClure; and his siblings, Alfred Stone (Norma), Nellie Corn (Richard) and Shelby Snead. He is also survived by Fifteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and lots of nieces and nephews.
