He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugh Shafer and Sarah "Louise" McQuaig Shafer; and his siblings, Pedro Shafer and Mary Altman. He is survived by: his wife Sue Shafer; his children, Charles Brien, Kevin Dorian (Amy), William Aaron (Lesley), Missy Knox and Jeff (Tami); and his sisters, Delores Dixon, Janice Pittman and Joyce Hendrix. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren.
