He was predeceased by: his parents, Miley Ashbrook and Effie Ashbrook; and his siblings, Arnold, Cecil Ashbrook and Irma Ashbrook.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Ann Ashbrook; his daughters, Monica Garrison (Paul), Rhonda Johnson (David) and Sonya Bowen (Kerry); and his sisters, Nelda Darnell and Joyce Moore. He is also survived by six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
