Derrick Dewayne Barrett Obituary
Derrick Dewayne Barrett, 43, of Caraway, departed this life on Saturday, June 14th, 2025, at the Phil & Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
Derrick was born on Wednesday, January 20, 1982, to Gaylon and Julia Barrett. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Alice Faye Wright, and his maternal grandparents, Floyd and Faye Pollard.
He spent his life in the Caraway Community where his family, friends, and community profoundly influenced his love for writing short stories and poems. He had a deep passion for family get-togethers, fishing, and camping. But his greatest passion was baseball especially the St. Louis Cardinals and anything automotive. And oh, the love he had for monster trucks. His passion for monster trucks started as a small child playing with toy trucks and going to truck shows with his dad, which later led to his dad giving him his old truck when he was old enough to drive.
Derrick always had a smile and a kind word to share. He could always block out the worst situations and think of things to put a smile on others' faces. This was deeply led by his strong religious raising. Derrick was a member of the Rivervale Baptist Church and loved his Savior and loved to share the word of God with others. He was a former employee of the Childress Gin, Coca Cola and worked security for St. Bernard's Hospital.
Derrick is survived by his parents of the home, daughter Destiny Barrett of Jonesboro, 1 brother Timothy and sister-in-law Chelsea of Etowah, 2 nieces Halle & Parker and 1 nephew Byler of Etowah, paternal grandfather Edwin Wright of Marked Tree.
Serving as honorary pallbearers Scott Toombs, David Toombs, Dustin Kelems and Christian Saliba.
Family will be receive friends Wednesday June 18 at the Rivervale Baptist Church from 9-10 am with a memorial service following after.
