He was predeceased by: his parents, Hollis Snell and Marie Snell (Shipmon); his wife Flossie Snell; his sons, Bill and Scott Snell; and his brothers, William Shipmon, Hollis "Sony" Snell, Frankie Snell and James Snell, Sr..
He is survived by: his children, Lori Cook of North Carolina and Les Snell of Oklahoma; and his sisters, Betty Buckner of Van Buren, Wanda Asher of Van Buren, Brenda Fight of Van Buren, Carolyn Wilhelm of Van Buren and Phyllis Norried of Van Buren. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.
