He was predeceased by : his parents, Velmar P. Qualls and Necia A. Qualls (Haigwood); and his siblings, William Qualls (Bill), Lona Louise Ross and Annabelle Tedeton.

He is survived by : his wife Janice Arlene Qualls (Hyder); his children, Duane Qualls (Teresa), Robert L. Qualls (Teresa) and Anna L. Shockley (Herbert); and his sister Shirley Stockton. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
