He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas E. Gates and Annie Marvine Simington; his wife Pearline Gates; his siblings, Tommy Gates, Eddie Gates, Lee Earl Gates and Lorene Gates; and his stepdaughter Diana Hughes.

He is survived by: his daughters, Kristina Devazier, Andrea Hughes, Terri West and Tammy Cox; and his grandchildren, Raelynn Dean, Evan Bailey, Cordel Selvidge and Mason Selvidge. He is also survived by great grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 31st 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Reeves Cemetery (2393 AR-58, Melbourne, AR 72556).
