He was predeceased by: his mother Sirah Ortiz; and his sister Patricia Rivas. He is survived by: his father Juan Rivas; his wife Barbara Castanon; his daughter Alexia Rivas Castanon; his siblings, Ismael Rivas, Maricela Rivas, Fernando Rivas, Juan Rivas and Karina Rivas; and his cousins, Oscar Ramirez, Angel Ramirez and Fabian Ramirez. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
