He was predeceased by: his wife Patricia Ann Rice Cathey; his parents, John Henry "Mack" and Minnie Dura Best Cathey; and his siblings, Madge Cathey, Agnes Carver, Addie Summerland, Etta Ellingsburg and Elton Edwin Cathey.
He is survived by: his sister-in-law Sherry Smith of Hamburg. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
