He was predeceased by: his parents, George Vail and Mae Vail (Minyard); his wife Betty Vail; his siblings, Edward Vail and Barbara Parker; his grandson Jeffery Tillman; the mother of his children Doris Herndon; and his grandfather Johnny.
He is survived by: his children, James "Bo" Vail (Michelle) and Anne Vail; and his stepchildren, Kathy Smith (Bill), Mark Gunter (Robin) and Bryan Gunter (Cynthia). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson, several nieces and nephews and his church family.
