He was predeceased by: his parents, John Pope Matthews and Martha Dawson Matthews; his siblings, John "Jack" Pope Matthews Jr., James "Jim" Purnell Matthews and Catherine Matthews Martin; and his son Jonathan Breece.
He is survived by: his spouse Candyce Jones Matthews; his children, Michael Dawson Matthews (Jill), James Patrick Matthews (Tracee), Martha Ann Matthews Kirspel, William Scully Matthews (Ann) and Bess Pope Matthews (Mike); his grandchildren, Ryan Matthews, Sean Matthews, Dawson Matthews, Griffyn Gentry, James Kirspel, Jessy Semore, Thomas Matthews, Michael Matthews, Holly Matthews, Braden Breece and Maddox Breece; his great grandchildren, Decker Semore, Rose Semore, Kaycie Matthews and Colter Matthews; H. B. Stubblefield.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Roller Chenal Funeral Home (13801 Chenal Pkwy, Little Rock, AR 72211). A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Memorial Gardens (2868 Airport Rd, Hot Springs, AR 71913).
