He was predeceased by: his parents, Gilbert Martin and Edith Mae Martin (Vaugh); his sister Vanessa Martin; and his son Timothy Martin. He is survived by: his wife Elnora Martin; his son Gilbert Martin III; his stepchildren, Shonna Richardson (Kevin) and Kimberly Martin; and his siblings, Linda Brown, Cynthia Woodard, Sherry Wiley (Ben), Latasha Rivers (Scott), Danny Martin, Tyrone Martin and Cornell Martin.
