He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Hermes and Katherine Hermes (Kalka) of Bandera, Texas.; his wife Gweneth Faye Hermes (Merryman); his son Sammy Ray Hermes; his siblings, Joseph Marcus, Julius Ray Hermes, Charles Oscar Hermes, Kathryn Elizabeth Wahrmund and Mable Ann Schultz; and his granddaughter Stephanie Marie Hermes.

He is survived by: his children, Dianna Jean Key (Kenneth) of Jacksonville, David Lynn Hermes of Jacksonville and Delton Mark Hermes (Jennifer) of Jacksonville; his siblings, Mary Fern Griggs of Missouri, Evelyn Rose Backus of Florida, Patricia Joyce Bailey of Conway, Leona Magdaline Edgman (Tommy) of Conway and Larry Raymond Hermes (Pam) of Florida; and his close friend Angie Shugart. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 36 nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces, nephews.
