He was predeceased by: his father Clarence Chastain; and his son Dewayne Chastain. He is survived by: his wife Marie Chastain; his children, Larry Chastain (Deniece Holman), Deborah Meador, Janice Chastain and Karen Townsand (Ron); and his sister Betty Swinney. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren.
