He was predeceased by: his parents, Watson Otwell and Mary Otwell Mitchell; his sons, Jason and Monty; and his sister Helen Sutton.

He is survived by: his wife Jan Nix Murphy Otwell of Jonesboro; his stepsons, Chad Murphy (Stephanie) of Lyons, Brad Murphy (Angela) of Jonesboro and Dustin Murphy (April) of Jonesboro; his daughter-in-law Linda Otwell of Huntsville, Arkansas; his sister Dorthy Wreyford of Shreveport, Louisiana; his nephews, Brian Wreyford of Shreveport and Jeff Wreyford of Nashville, Tennessee; and his niece Cindy Henry of Houston, Texas.. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
