Mark Wimpy Obituary
Mark Wimpy, 59 of Jonesboro, ascended to his heavenly home on Monday, March 25, 2019. Mark was born October 1, 1959 and was a lifelong resident of Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was a 1977 graduate of Valley View High School and a farmer all his life. A lifelong member of Southwest Church of Christ, Mark also enjoyed travelling, hunting, water skiing, spending time at the lake, scuba diving, riding motorcycles, and livestock competitions.
Mark's greatest passion was his family. He loved spending time with his wife Belinda, kids and grandkids. He served as President of the Board of Directors for Simmons First Bank of Jonesboro from 1993-2017. Mark was serving on the Craighead Farmers Co-Op Board since 2008 and previously served from 1987-1993. He was on the Farm Bureau Board from 1998-1990.
Mark also served on the Valley View School Board from 1993-1998 along with Valley View Parent Teacher Association from 1989-2002 and Valley View Basketball Booster Club from 1990-2002. Mark and his family won Arkansas Farm Family of the Year in 2009 and he won Arkansas Farmer of the Year in 2011. Mark was voted as a finalist for Young Farmer and Rancher in 1998.
He also served as President for the Craighead County Extension Service Soybean and Feed Grains Planning Committee. Mark was the featured speaker at the 14th Annual National Conservation Systems Cotton and Rice Conference. Mark was preceded in death by his father Gaylon M. Wimpy; step-father, Don Kissinger and beloved Uncle and Aunt, Pete and Eunice Wimpy.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Belinda Wimpy of the home; daughters, Haley (Tim) Fitzgerald, Hannah (Jairus) Stroupe; brother, Perry (Tina) Wimpy; 4 grandchildren: Ava Fitzgerald, Lane Fitzgerald, Sawyer Grace Stroupe, Cole David McGhehey; mother, Lilian Kissinger; step-mother, Kay Pickering Wimpy and aunts and uncles: Lucille Wimpy, Paul (Opaline) Wimpy, Kathleen (Jim) Berry.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Adcox and Jace Tubbs officiating. Burial will follow at Keller's Chapel Cemetery with active pallbearers being Jerry Tubbs, Warren Coots, Tommy Bryant, Wayne Bond, Bill Wiechman and Wesley Mills. Honorary pallbearers will be the Valley View Class of 1977.
Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00-3:00.
