He was predeceased by: his parents, Rommie Ashcraft and Maunee Taylor Ashcraft; his sister Judy; his brother-in-law Bill Nichols; and his niece Janice Lea Whaley.

He is survived by: his wife Jean Stricklin Ashcraft; his daughters, Beth Smith of Jonesboro and Laurie Jo Stowers of Little Rock; his grandchildren, Dr. Hunter Smith (Kali) of California, Dr. Ross Smith (Lauren) of Jonesboro and Shelby Stowers of Little Rock; and his great grandchildren, Harrison, Colin, Graham Smith of California, Bingham, Boone and Brentlee Smith of Jonesboro. He is also survived by nieces and nephews as well as other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Weiner Fire Department.
