He is survived by : his wife Velvet A. Overbey; his children, James Lawson Overbey, Jr. and Tonya Ranae Freeman; his sister Mary Helen Monroe; his grandchildren, Jimmy Freeman (Konya), Sydney Overbey, Joseph Freeman and Lawson Overbey; and his great grandchild Lynli Smith.
