He was predeceased by : his mother Virgie Olloway Whitfield; and his siblings, Teresa Gilmore, Evelyn Halcomb, Tommie Whitfield, Jr., Burgess "Rudy" Whitfield and Julius "Carl" Whitfield.

He is survived by : his father Tommie Whitfield, Sr.; his wife Elizabeth Sours; his sons, Lawrence Whitfield, Jr. (Arizona), Joshua Whitfield (Rhea) of Irvine and Shiloh Whitfield (Valerie) of Aurora, Colorado.; and his siblings, Mattie Frierson of Matteson, IL, Leona Simpson of Markham, IL, Frank Whitfield of Homewood, Illinois, David Whitfield of Olympia, Washington, Charles Whitfield of Chicago, Illinois and Alfred "Sonny" Whitfield of St. Louis. He is also survived by close friends – until we meet again, dad, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
