He was predeceased by: his wife Laura Alice Hess; his parent Emma Elizabeth Barnes; and his siblings, Goldie Rushing, Sylvester Hess and Carl Gene Hess.
He is survived by: his daughters, Esther Hess of Jacksonville and Mary Joyner of Ola; his grandchildren, Carla Hess, Robbie Hess, Matthew Minick and Marc Minick; and his great grandchildren, Michael Minick and Cadence Meelyea.
