He was predeceased by: his parents, Ottie Shook and Hilda Shook; his sisters, Patsy Vandehey (Ed) and Charlene Wilhite; and his son Jeffery.

He is survived by: his wife Claudia Mitschke Shook (Dale); his grandchildren, Jimmy, Raelynn, Cydne, Nichole (Jeremy), Nevin (Michelle), Nigel (Jolene), Ryan, Scott and Cassandra; his great grandchildren, Kaeleigh, Jake, Hailey, Adriana, Autom, Aiden, Aubrie, Aynslee, Jacsen, Ryder, Wyatt, Colton, Grace, Ethan, Rylan, River, Rainier, Ducan, James III, Isaac and Alyssa; and his great great grandchildren, Lilliana and Ella.
