He was predeceased by: his parents, Wallace W. Covington and Norma L. Covington (Knight); his daughter Tonya Gower (Brian); and his sister Melba Swingle. He is survived by: his wife Gwendolyn "Gwen" Faye Scoles; his children, Kevin Covington (Holly) of Pekin and Candace Hart (Luke Peters) of Pekin; his grandchildren, Amanda Beal, Gavynn Covington, Ian Covington, Ava Covington, Landon Hart (Madison Martin), Cali Demure and Colton Gower; his great grandchildren, Maverick Demure, Liam Demure, Keeley Covington, Gwendolyn Covington, Ashlyn Strubar, Braylynn Johnson, Kaydence Covington and Camden Gower; and his sister Ina Wernsman (Ron) of Metamora.
