He was predeceased by: his parents, Lillie Weaver McDoniel and Alton McDoniel; and his siblings, Hava Brooks, Ida Mae Dugger, Paul, Robert, Timothy and James McDoniel.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Elizabeth Dugger McDoniel; his daughter Darla Beth Hayes (Pat) of Newark; his granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Hayes of Newark; his great grandchildren, Anna Elizabeth King of Newark and Lane Charles King of Newark; and his siblings, Wallace McDoniel (Lois) of Newark, Barbara Britton of Newark and Juanita Bainbridge of Southside. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
