He was predeceased by: his mother Dollie Graham McElrath; his son Douglas Lee McElrath; and his siblings, Bill Cooper, Melvin Cooper, George McElrath and Mebaline McCaghren.

He is survived by: his wife Mary McElrath; his brother Ray (Sandra McElrath); his sister-in-law Peggy McElrath; his sons, Scot McElrath and Mark McElrath; his grandchildren, Zack McElrath and Kayla (Britt Dobbins); and his caregivers, Tory, Krista, Claudia, Lamonda, Paula and Polly.
