He was predeceased by : his parents, Jay Hilburn and Grace Hilburn; his brother John B. Hilburn; his wife Doris A. Dauman Hilburn; and his parents-in-law, L. L. and Frances L. Dauman.

He is survived by : his sister Helen Lively of Kansas City, Missouri; his sons, James L. Hilburn of Springfield and Mark A. Hilburn of Dover, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Stephanie, Aaron, Adrienne, Trevor, Brian and Alane; and his great grandchildren, Ashley, James Lewis, Nora, Vivian, Adeline, Gideon, Marie, Benjamin, Alana and Wasan.
