He was predeceased by: his wife JoAnn Smelser; his parents, Ernest Smelser and Ella Smelser (Dickerson); his grandson Cody Brac Smelser; his daughter-in-law Melonie Smelser (Smith); his grandson-in-law Samuel Lantz; and his siblings, Bruce Smelser, Bert Smelser, Thomas Smelser, Maxine Martin, Eula Ford, Erie Green, Zuline Ward, Marie McGarraugh, Mary Ruth Smelser and Faye Partlow.
He is survived by: his children, Ricky Smelser (Filiberta) and Kathy Johnson (David); and his grandchildren, Zuri Aguirre, Shannon Lantz, Michael Johnson, Heather Pohl (Nate), Meagan Lane (Everette), Edgar Aguirre (Kateri) and Jennifer Jones (Nick). He is also survived by his 15 great-grandchildren.
