Mildred Thames Obituary
Mildred P. Thames was born October 24, 1931 from the union of Albert and Lenora Pryor in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She graduated from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, formerly known as AM&N, with a Bachelor of Science in Childhood Early Education and a minor in Music. She also sang with the Vesper Choir.
Ms. Thames taught school at Wilson Trade School, Grider ElementarySchool, and Osceola West Elementary School all located in Osceola, Arkansas. She even taught at Arkansas Youth Services Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Mildred leaves a legacy of over forty years of serving her community with excellence as an educator, mother, mentor, and friend. After retiring from teaching, she became a volunteer for Jefferson Regional Medical Center's Cardiac Rehab team up until 2013.
She is preceded in death by her late husband—Marshall H. Thames (1996); son—John Thames (1994); and sister-in-law—Lucille Vanderbilt (2014).
She leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter and son—Phyllis Thames Greer of Pine Bluff and Andre Thames of Jackson, Mississippi; adaughter-in-law—Denise Jennings; nieces and nephew—Shirley Vanderbilt, Marcy Perry, and Eric Charles Vanderbilt; her grandchildren (adults) - David Wilks, Aaron Thames, John Thames, II, Joseph Applegate, Kelle Greer, Karley G. Hudson, and TameraThames; and a host of cousins, uncles on her mother's side of the family (Davis), other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service will be 12:00p.m.on Saturday at Paradise Funeral Home Chapel.Interment will be Private
Walk-through viewing will be 11:00am-12:00pm on Saturday at Paradise.
