He was predeceased by: his parents, Betty Bates and Dan Bates; his daughters, Lisa Marie Bates and Cheryl Hayes; and his brothers, George Bates and Danny Wayne Bates.
He is survived by: his siblings, Marshall Bates (Phyllis), Marjorie Carpenter (Kendall), Sharon "Red" Jester (Doug) and Betty Wisniewski (Mike); his sister-in-law Ronda McCool; Jessica, Mia and Slick. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
