He was predeceased by: his parents, John Harshaw Sr. and Alta Gray Harshaw; and his sisters, Ann Davis, Jean Bennett and Cora "Sissy" Ellen Johnson.
He is survived by: his wife Tara Harshaw; his children, Huston Harshaw, Mike Harshaw, Matt Harshaw and Lonnette Presley (Richard); his grandchildren, Kaylie Overbey, Krissy Cotner, Presley Cotner, Kyler Cotner, Madi Harshaw, Keaton Harshaw and Loren Harshaw; his sisters, Susan Ferguson (Steven) and La'Nell Noland Reynolds; and his siblings-in-law, Freddie Davis, Charles Johnson, Trent Broussard (Margie), Telesia Coulson (Jon) and Gail Harvell (Cecil). He is also survived by nieces, nephews and many friends.
